Renewable developer CWP Global and Mauritania’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum signed a comprehensive agreement in Nouakchott this month, pushing forward development of the AMAN mega-project. The long-term contractual framework covers the different phases of the AMAN project and sets out the financial, economic, and developmental aspects related to its implementation. CWP expects the project to produce 1.2 million tons of renewable hydrogen and 6.6 million tons of renewable ammonia every year, with the potential for iron ore reduction in collaboration with Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM) – Africa’s second largest producer of iron ore, based in Mauritania.
This agreement reflects the trust international investors place in Mauritania’s energy sector and establishes a comprehensive framework for project development. It is a major step toward achieving Mauritania’s ambition to become a global hub for renewable energy and green hydrogen.
H.E. Mohamed Ould Khaled, Minister of Energy and Petroleum, in his organisation’s official press release, 16 Sept 2026
This is a historic moment for our company, for Mauritanians, and for the future of the global green molecules industry. We thank the Mauritanian government for its strategic vision. Mauritania is ideally positioned to supply global markets with clean energy. The project has now reached the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) stage, and we are targeting a Final Investment Decision before 2030.
Mark Crandall, Chairman of CWP Global, in the Mauritanian Ministry of Energy and Petroleum’s official press release, 16 Sept 2026
GreenGo Energy, Shuangliang to partner for FEED, tech deployment
Also developing a mega-project in Mauritania, Denmark-based GreenGo Energy has signed a new partnership with China-based Shuangliang for development & FEED work, engineering services, and supply of green power-to-hydrogen systems (including electrolysers). GreenGo and Shuangliang will work together on the Megaton Moon project in Mauritania, as well as a renewable ammonia project in Namibia. Shunagliang previously delivered sixteen of its electrolysis units to ACME for the first stage of ACME’s renewable ammonia project in Duqm, Oman.
