AEA Australia conference announced for August 2019: Ammonia = Hydrogen 2.0

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Australian chapter of the Ammonia Energy Association (AEA Australia) has announced details of its inaugural conference, which will take place on August 22 and 23, 2019, at the CSIRO campus in Clayton, Victoria.

Entitled “Ammonia = Hydrogen 2.0,” the conference will focus on the role of ammonia within the Australian hydrogen economy, specifically “Building an energy export industry using Green Ammonia.” In addition to a full program of talks by invited speakers from industry, government and research sectors, networking events will include panel discussions, a poster session, and the conference dinner. Registration for the event is now open, with an early booking discount available until July 5.

The opening address will be given by the Honourable Lily D’Ambrosio, Victorian Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, and Minister for Solar Homes. The plenary speaker will be Shigeru Muraki, Representative Director at the Green Ammonia Consortium and Executive Advisor at Tokyo Gas, who will speak about “the aspirations of Japan, as one of Australia’s largest energy customers, to import carbon-free ammonia into their energy market.”

Invited speakers, many of whom will be providing updates on projects that we have written about here, include representatives from Siemens, Yara, CSIRO, ASTI, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), Hydrogen Mobility Australia, Hydrogen Utility (H2U), University of Western Australia, and Monash University. The Chair of AEA Australia, John Mott, will make a presentation on behalf of the Ammonia Safety and Training Institute (ASTI) about “Issues affecting safety risks with ammonia storage, transport and distribution.” Monash University, which provides AEA Australia with institutional support, including hosting the conference website, will be represented by Doug MacFarlane who will address “Progress and challenges in ammonia synthesis by electrochemical processes.” CSIRO, about whose hydrogen-to-ammonia membrane system we have written extensively, is hosting the conference in the Ian Wark Theatre at CSIRO’s Clayton campus, and will be represented by David Harris.

Registration for Ammonia = Hydrogen 2.0 is now open, and a 20% early bird registration discount is available until July 5, 2019. Early registration prices are AUD $400 for Industry / Government, $240 for Universities, and $40 for Students.
