Atlas Agro, IRM: low-emission fertilizer offtake from Washington state
By Julian Atchison on October 29, 2024
Atlas Agro and International Raw Materials have signed a binding offtake agreement for fertilizer to be produced at Atlas Agro’s under-development plant in Richland, Washington state. The electrolysis-based facility will be located near the Port of Benton, producing 700,000 tons of low-emission nitrogen fertilizers each year. Although IRM is a worldwide distributor, the announcement indicates that the target market will be agricultural growers across the Pacific northwest.
Our partnership with IRM is a significant milestone in our progress to bring locally produced, green nitrogen fertilizer products to growers in the Pacific Northwest. IRM is a company renowned for its market knowledge and logistics capabilities with deep roots in the Pacific Northwest, and a commitment to bringing sustainable solutions to the agriculture supply chain.

Adding Atlas Agro’s green fertilizer products to our marketing and distribution portfolio is well-aligned with our commitment to agricultural sustainability. We’re seeing increased demand for a variety of solutions across the supply chain as food companies respond to the needs of consumers and look for new tools to address their Scope 3 emissions.

Atlas Agro announced that it recently completed FEED work for the plant, as well as required environmental approvals from state and federal agencies. FID is expected in early 2025, and Atlas has already secured a $325 million investment from Macquarie Asset Management. The plant will produce a range of conventional fertilizers in liquid and solid form (CAN27, AN20, CAN17, CN9).
