Yara has secured a long-term supply from ATOME’s Villeta project in Paraguay. Hydropower from the Itaipu Dam will power the production of electrolytic hydrogen, ammonia and then calcium ammonium nitrate fertiliser, which will be marketed and sold as part of Yara’s “Climate Choice” product line.
KBR will provide its licensed ammonia synthesis loop technology for a new million ton-per-year ammonia plant in Duqm, Oman. Shell will produce CCS-based hydrogen feedstock at its adjacent Blue Horizons plant, a project launched last year with support from Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
The pair will explore the integration of Amogy’s ammonia cracking technology with Yanmar’s under-development hydrogen internal combustion engine. Yanmar is a leading provider of marine engines for small-scale marine propulsion, and has also commercialised a hydrogen fuel cell system.
CIC plans to develop two projects in Australia, based on its modular hydrogen production technology. Each project will feature a 10 GW “network” of off-grid modules, incorporating renewable energy, water extraction and electrolysis to produce renewable hydrogen. The first project - named Green Springs - will be located south of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory, producing more than 500,000 tons of renewable hydrogen every year.
Moored in Yokohama Port, the A-Tug was refueled from a shoreside tanker truck with ammonia earlier this month. The ammonia for the demonstration was supplied by Resonac Corporation, and ammonia fuel is to be supplied by JERA once the vessel is delivered for commercial operations in the coming months.
By 2030, Yara will supply 165,000 tons per year of “Yara Climate Choice fertilizers” to PepsiCo Europe for distribution to participating farmers. This volume will cover around 25% of PepsiCo’s fertilizer needs in Europe, focusing first on potato crops, and then moving into other key crops such as oats and corn.
Together with Global Energy Storage, Stolthaven Terminals has been selected as the preferred choice to plan, design, build and operate an ammonia terminal in Pecém, Brazil. The new terminal will facilitate exports from a number of ammonia production projects planned for the area.
The European Commission has approved a €122 million Lithuanian state grant to support AB AChema to decarbonise fertiliser production at its existing facility in Kaunas. A 171 MW electrolysis plant will be installed, producing enough renewable hydrogen to displace 30% of the current, gas-based feedstock used at the site.
Singapore-based Aslan Energy Capital has acquired land in Sonora state for a solar-powered hydrogen and ammonia production project, feeding domestic requirements in Mexico. Also amongst Aslan’s portfolio is the ARUN Blue Ammonia project in Aceh Province, near the vital Strait of Malacca international shipping lane.
Fertiglobe has won the first H2Global pilot auction for renewable ammonia, promising to deliver 397,000 tons of renewable ammonia between 2027 and 2033. H2Global’s announcement comes at the end of a two year auction process. Following the H2Global announcement, Fertiglobe committed to a twenty-year offtake deal for renewable hydrogen feedstock from the Egypt Green Hydrogen project, demonstrating the investor certainty fostered by the auction.
