Two mega-projects will establish CCS ammonia supply chains to South Korea for use as a power generation fuel. In Western Australia, Pilot Energy and new project partners Samsung C&T will develop the Mid West Clean Energy Project, while Hydrogen Canada Corp has announced a Korean offtaker for its production project near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
The IMO reports that significant progress has been made on the development of draft interim guidelines for the safety of ships using ammonia as fuel. Approval of the final guidelines is scheduled for December 2024, with a series of key regulatory updates due in the coming years.

Sunborne Systems ran a successful demonstration for its ammonia cracking reactor in Oxford, producing a fuel blend capable of powering a small vehicle or small generator unit. Also in the UK, AFC Energy announced a similarly successful demonstration of its integrated cracker and purifier system, producing hydrogen fuel which meets purity & ISO standards for heavy vehicle refueling.
