Mexico PepsiCo and Yara have announced a new long-term partnership. Yara will supply both low-emission fertilizers and decarbonization services, similar to an agreement between PepsiCo and Yara in Europe signed in July 2024. Under the new agreement, potato farmers in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina will be supplied with Yara’s Climate Choice™ fertilizer range. The potatoes will be used in the production of Sabritas potato chips and other snack foods. Depending on the fertilizer product used, these fertilizers can reduce the carbon footprint per ton of potato by 20% to 40%.
The agreement demonstrates the value of our solutions for decarbonizing agriculture and food production. With PepsiCo as an ally and leader on this path, we can protect the environment for both present and future generations.
Pedro Parenti, SVP Yara Latin America, in his organisation’s official press release, 12 May 2025
This collaboration agreement with Yara represents significant progress in our pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) agenda. We believe that Positive Agriculture – our ambition to support regenerative farming practices, sustainable sourcing, and better living conditions – will be key to meeting the growing demand for food as the global population increases, while addressing the need to protect and improve our natural resources and promote human well-being.
Paula Santilli, CEO of PepsiCo Latin America, in Yara’s official press release, 12 May 2025
The Climate Choice™ fertilizer range includes lower-carbon options produced either from renewable ammonia or carbon capture and storage (CCS) based ammonia. The range also includes Yara’s conventional nitrate-based fertilizers, which are manufactured using Yara’s proprietary, energy-efficient catalyst technology.
