Through its ammonia FPSO vessel project, SwitcH2 expects to start producing ammonia offshore 2028, while Louis Dreyfus Ports and Logistics’s “FRESH” mobile ammonia terminal concept is expected to become commercial by 2025. Recently awarded AiPs affirm the technical feasibility of both designs.
Supported by Sumitomo Corporation, H2Pro plans to run a demonstration experiment of 200kg per day production of renewable hydrogen using their E-TAC system. H2Pro seeks to scale up to 10 tonnes per day production capacity by 2024, with the ultimate aim to commercialise by the end of this decade.
The upcoming tugboat experiment scheduled for later this year will be the company’s first MW scale deployment of their ammonia-to-power system. The tugboat’s initial voyage in a New York waterway will also be the first deployment Amogy’s ammonia-to-power system in the maritime industry.
The pair will partner to develop a renewable hydrogen & ammonia project near Abu Dhabi, powered by 650 MW of solar PV in the first phase. The announcement adds to a growing portfolio of electrolysis and CCS-based ammonia projects in the UAE. Also in the Middle East, neighbouring Oman looks to position itself as the ideal “midway” ammonia bunker hub between Rotterdam and Singapore.
Ammonia co-firing trials will shortly commence in the Philippines, Thailand and Chile, with an initial focus on co-firing rates of 20-30% ammonia. Japanese energy giants JERA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries continue to be significant players in the co-firing space.
ACWA Power and the Uzbek government will jointly develop a pilot-scale renewable hydrogen facility, which is to be integrated with an existing ammonia & fertilizer plant outside the country’s capital Tashkent. The pair will also explore the feasibility of a 500,000 tonnes per year renewable ammonia facility in the Central Asian country.
