In a series of high-level panel discussions, our speakers will explore developments in key demand centers for low-emission ammonia, outlining what early customers are looking for, how the first contracts are being structured, and how confidence is being built. Panel discussions will shed light on key market segments including Fertilizers and Shipping Fuel, as well as key locations including Asia and Europe. To close our event, the AEA’s leadership team will take the stage to digest proceedings from two-and-a-half days, and invite further discussion with the conference audience.
Technical Track
In the Technical Track, our speakers will discuss the pathway to deployment in a number of key future ammonia applications.
“Ammonia Gas Turbines: Pathway to Deployment” will be moderated by Stephen Crolius (Carbon Neutral Consulting), featuring insights from:
Jeff Beniot, Hanwha | Jeff Goldmeer, GE Vernova | Mitsubishi Heavy Industries | IHI Corporation | Rob Steele, EPRI | Agustin Valera-Medina, Cardiff University | JERA
Ammonia-fired gas turbines are fast becoming a commercial reality, and here we showcase the technological advances and pathway forward to deployment. We also delve into the known challenges facing ammonia gas turbines, and what solutions are available to mitigate these roadblocks.
“Low-emission Ammonia for Maritime Propulsion” will be moderated by Vibeke Rasmussen (Yara Clean Ammonia), featuring insights from:
Ernst Wilche, MAN ES | Kaj Portin, Wärtsilä | Kristof Coppé, EXMAR | Fumiya Fujimori, NYK | WinGD
2024 has seen a number of key developments, including the first vessels sailing on ammonia fuel. This session is an opportunity to hear directly from the engine manufacturers and vessel implementation leaders, as we look towards widespread deployment in the coming years.
“Deploying Electrolytic Hydrogen for Ammonia Plants: Lessons Learned” will be moderated by Emily Wolf (Ambient Fuels), with a series of first-movers invited to share their operational experiences deploying electrolytic hydrogen for ammonia. We look at some of the pathways forward to larger-sized electrolysis facilities and more widespread adoption.
“Ammonia Cracking” will be moderated by Jebin James (Duiker Clean Technologies), featuring insights from:
Bill David, STFC | John Pach, Johnson Matthey | Jatinder Sampathkumar, Amogy | Thomas Wurzel, Air Liquide | Mike Rendall, AFC Energy | KBR | Topsoe
Ammonia cracking is a long-established, well-understood industrial process, and it is now being integrated to serve new, exciting applications. We will explore first-mover projects, including large-scale ammonia cracking at import hubs, cracking for power generation, cracking for fuel cell vehicle propulsion and more.
Safety & Regulations Track
In the Safety & Regulations Track, our speakers will address a number of key areas for the emerging industry, and share valuable experience from first-movers and practice-leaders. How do we navigate the changing landscape of maritime ammonia regulations? How do we proactively engage with community stakeholders, and what is the current state of public perception for ammonia? What are optimal models for risk mitigation and incident response, and how have these been applied in real-world scenarios? And what is the state of the art for ammonia gas detectors, a key element in safety and monitoring systems?
Our breakout sessions will also feature Certification and Market tracks, with details to come soon.
