EverWind Fuels: first-to-market ammonia exports from Canada’s Maritime provinces
To explore wind-based renewable ammonia production in Nova Scotia and lessons learned from the recently-finished FEED study for the Point Tupper project, EverWind Fuels and Black & Veatch joined Project Features this month. Discussion included a detailed breakdown of the lessons learned designing flexible hydrogen and ammonia production plants.
Hygenco secures pre-certification for Odisha project
Starting in 2027, Hygenco will produce ammonia compliant with the EU’s RFNBO standard. Pre-certification from CertifHy enables access to key European markets, and marks another project milestone achieved in recent months.
RWE to offtake RFNBO-compliant renewable ammonia from India
RWE Supply & Trading will offtake 250,000 tons per year of AM Green Ammonia’s RFNBO-compliant ammonia from production sites in India. The ammonia is expected to be delivered from 2027.
AM Green Ammonia reaches FID for its first million tons of renewable ammonia production
AM Green Ammonia, a Greenko spinout entity focused on the production of renewable ammonia in India, announced that it has reached FID on the first phase of a multi-million ton per year plant.
CertifHy pre-certification awarded to Greenko’s renewable project in India
CertifHy has awarded RFNBO pre-certification to Greenko subsidiary AM Green for its under-development hydrogen and ammonia production facility in southern India. By 2030, Greenko aims for a capacity of one million tons per year of electrolytic hydrogen, feeding the production of 5 million tons per year of ammonia.
EverWind Fuels progresses Nova Scotia project
Black & Veatch has completed FEED work for Phase 1 of the Point Tupper project in Nova Scotia. With construction on track to begin later this year, ammonia production is expected to commence in 2026: 240,000 tons per year from electrolytic hydrogen powered by onshore renewables. EverWind Fuels also indicates that the project has been pre-certified by CertifHy™, meaning produced ammonia will meet compliance rules for exports to the EU.

Saudi Arabia ships low-carbon ammonia to Japan
Last week, Saudi Aramco and the IEEJ attracted significant media attention when they announced that the first “blue” ammonia has been shipped to Japan. Aramco’s celebration of this shipment of 40 tons of ammonia (not 40 thousand or 40 million, just 40 tons) raises many questions, but makes three things clear. First, projects to demonstrate the carbon footprint of specific batches of low-carbon ammonia are now underway, and these case studies will inform the design of an international low-carbon ammonia certification scheme. Second, there is an urgent need to establish definitions across the industry, or risk losing credibility. Third, Aramco (absolutely the most profitable company in the world, with over a hundred oil and gas fields and almost 300 trillion scf of natural gas reserves) has sent a clear signal that it intends to make and sell ammonia as a decarbonized energy commodity.
