Reducing electrolysis costs, support for first-mover projects in the UK

    Julian Atchison April 13, 2025

27 low-emission hydrogen projects have been shortlisted for funding by the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, including Statkraft’s marine ammonia fuel project in Shetland. The UK government has also confirmed that it will exempt electricity used in electrolysis from the Climate Change Levy - one of fourteen policy recommendations from the authors of the Splitting the Difference roadmap to reduce the price of producing electrolytic hydrogen in the UK by 58%.

Floating production of hydrogen & ammonia

Conor Furstenberg Stott September 07, 2022

H2 Carrier's P2XFloater™ concept received Approval in Principle from DNV in late August. With beginnings in the oil industry, Floating Production units have played a vital role, extending the life of offshore fields and allowing for greater flexibility in production & transfer of product. As the energy transition gathers pace, so-called “Floaters” represent an immediate opportunity to fully leverage new Power-to-X projects, allowing for offshore production of hydrogen and ammonia.

New P2A2P Scheme Proposed in Norway

    Stephen H. Crolius December 05, 2018

Svalbard, the Norwegian archipelago that sits far above the Arctic Circle, is being considered for the back end of an electricity-to-ammonia-to-electricity (P2A2P) scheme.  As reported in Norway's Teknisk Ukeblad (TU), the state-owned utility Statkraft has surfaced ammonia as one of four possible hydrogen-oriented solutions to meet Svalbard’s energy needs – and then short-listed it for further study.
