    Together with Global Energy Storage, Stolthaven Terminals has been selected as the preferred choice to plan, design, build and operate an ammonia terminal in Pecém, Brazil. The new terminal will facilitate exports from a number of ammonia production projects planned for the area.

    Advario: new ammonia import capacity in Belgium

    Along with project partner Fluxys, Advario is studying the feasibility of developing an open-access ammonia import terminal at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, with operations to begin in 2027. On a recent tour of Advario facilities in Belgium, Hydrogen Council representatives noted an “impressive” approach to safety in ammonia transition plans.

    Leakage-free bunkering & ammonia-ready newbuild vessels

    In Japan, NYK and TBG will develop a new ammonia bunkering boom to help reduce ammonia leakage during fuel transfers. On the newbuild front, Stolt Tanker’s six newbuild vessels will have the option of being retrofitted for ammonia propulsion, including the recently delivered Bochem Houston. Wallenius’ four “next generation” vessels will be initially methanol powered, with the option to run on ammonia.

    New import terminals, energy hubs, bunker facilities & upgrades to existing ammonia storage facilities are underway across Europe. This week, we explore new project announcements in Wilhelmshaven, Brunsbüttel, Rotterdam and Immingham. We visit Taiwan for another ammonia import terminal announcement, and look at a new partnership between thyssenkrupp and ADNOC to deploy large-scale cracking - the “last piece of the puzzle” for global ammonia trading.
