AM Green taps engineering, electrolysis providers for renewable mega-project
John Cockerill will supply a total of 1.3 GW of alkaline electrolysers for AM Green’s under-development renewable ammonia plant in Kakinada, India. John Cockerill and Technip Energies joint venture Rely with full engineering and commissioning services, with ammonia production due to begin in late 2026. In related news, BASF and AM Green will explore offtake of 100,000 tons per year of renewable ammonia from India.

Low-carbon ammonia in Baytown, Texas
Exxon Mobil is planning a CCS hydrogen & ammonia production facility at its existing complex in Baytown, Texas, with operations to begin in 2027-8. This week, Korea-based SK Inc. Materials announced they would act as off taker for the CCS ammonia, which will be imported to Korea for use in coal co-combustion.

Pilbara renewable ammonia project reaches key milestones
ENGIE has successfully reached a final investment decision on Project Yuri. The collaboration with Yara will see renewable hydrogen feedstock produced next door to Yara’s existing ammonia & fertiliser production facility in Karratha, Western Australia, with construction to commence this year, and production of renewable hydrogen to begin in 2024.
In further developments, Yuri has new stakeholders, with Mitsui & Co. securing a 28% interest stake in Yuri, and Technip Energy being selected to lead EPCC works. And in certification news, the Smart Energy Council also announced it has granted pre-certification for renewable hydrogen & ammonia production from Project Yuri, under the Zero Carbon Certification Scheme.
