In anticipation of new ammonia production projects beginning operations in Australia, how do we supply and train the new personnel that will be required? This was the focus of the CQU Ammonia Skills Project 2024/25, which produced new module training packages that have been piloted and validated by industry. The workshop also looks at training from a risk management perspective, and what lessons can be drawn from the rise of LNG manufacturing in Australia.

CRT’s patented catalyst enables high-efficiency ammonia-to-electricity conversion at scale, achieving >99.9% ammonia cracking without costly membranes. Combined with a micro-structured substrate, it delivers clean hydrogen directly to fuel cells/ammonia engines for unmatched system efficiency.

Korea’s Clean Hydrogen Portfolio Standard (CHPS) is a tender process for subsidizing clean hydrogen imports for power generation applications. Here, we break down the results of the first tender, where the only awarded winner was Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPO) for the import of clean ammonia fuel to be co-fired at the Samcheok power station. We also look at issues in the first tender process, adjustments made in advance of the second tender announced this May, and how entrants into the Korean clean ammonia market can best position themselves.

Explore NH3 Clean Energy’s flagship project: WAH2 Clean Ammonia. Located in the Pilbara region near the Port of Dampier, the project features globally competitive economics, a unique geographic position (including potential fueling of the Australia-Asia iron ore shipping route), and is currently the most advanced commercial-scale clean ammonia project in Australia.

In order to achieve decarbonization of thermal power plants, we conducted a demonstration test at the Hekinan Thermal Power Plant to substitute a part of coal fuel with ammonia fuel last year. The demonstration test was conducted by substituting 20% of the coal fuel with ammonia with good results, and now our construction is progressing as planned for commercial operation. In addition, we have considered safety measures for ammonia handling, including facility design and operational considerations, and we conducted disaster prevention drills and communicated with the local community. In this session, I will explain & explore these initiatives.
