Australian, Canadian producers to supply ammonia for power generation to South Korea
Australia-based Pilot Energy has been approved as a potential low-emission ammonia fuel supplier under the newly-implemented Clean Hydrogen Production Standard (CHPS) scheme in Korea. In Alberta, Korea Southern Power will work with Hydrogen Canada Corporation to jointly develop a 1 million tons per year ammonia production facility.
Topsoe to begin solid oxide electrolyser production in Denmark
Topsoe’s SOE manufacturing plant in Herning, Denmark is on-track to begin operations this year, with the first 100 MW of units to be delivered in early 2025 to First Ammonia for its renewable ammonia production project in Port of Victoria, Texas.
Atlas Agro, IRM: low-emission fertilizer offtake from Washington state
Atlas Agro and International Raw Materials have signed a binding offtake agreement for fertilizer to be produced at Atlas Agro’s under-development plant in Richland, Washington state.
Technology options for low-emission ammonia production from gas
In this Technology Insights article, we explore the different technology options for low-emission ammonia production from gas feedstock. What are the different energy, carbon capture, scale and maturity trade-offs that need to be considered? What technology choices are project developers currently making?
Global Hydrogen Review 2024: FID doubles, low-emission ammonia takes center stage
As shown in the IEA’s recently released Global Hydrogen Review 2024, the cumulative hydrogen production capacity reaching Final Investment Decision has doubled compared to last year. Promisingly, low-emission ammonia comprises a significant portion of both the mature project pipeline and secured offtake volume.
Marine momentum: AiPs for bunkering, fuel systems and vessels
A series of new AiPs underlines momentum for marine ammonia fuel. For bunkering, barges and a range of jetty-less transfer terminals will enable safe operations. Fuel systems that can be retrofitted to existing vessels are also under development, as is an ammonia-powered “feeder” container vessel to complement larger designs.
Consortium aims for ammonia bunkering on US east coast by 2030
The American Bureau of Shipping has awarded AiP to a new ammonia bunkering articulated tug-barge design. The bunker barge will be compatible with several ammonia-powered vessels under development, and will begin commercial operations on the US east coast by 2030.
