Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and ITOCHU will use their own vessels to demonstrate ship to ship ammonia bunkering in Singapore in 2027. This week, ITOCHU also signed collaboration agreements for the development of ammonia bunkering near the Suez Canal.
ITOCHU has signed a world-first contract with Sasaki Shipbuilding for a 5000 m3 ammonia-fueled, ammonia bunkering vessel. The vessel is set to be delivered by September 2027.
At Singapore Maritime Week, Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore and Australia’s national science agency CSIRO announced funding for eight maritime decarbonization projects, including ammonia safety training, and an AI-based safety management system. MPA also signed agreements with ABS, the Ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp-Brugges, and confirmed it has contributed to early work on training guidelines for the safe handling of methanol and ammonia at the IMO.
Aviation investor SkiesFifty has announced a new partnership with UK-based Catalsys to develop ammonia-based power systems. The pair will focus on deployment in two areas: ground operations for aviation, and aircraft propulsion systems.
Maritime & Port Authority Singapore announced that it will finalise ammonia bunkering standards for the island nation by next year.
