Starting in 2027, Hygenco will produce ammonia compliant with the EU’s RFNBO standard. Pre-certification from CertifHy enables access to key European markets, and marks another project milestone achieved in recent months.
ACWA and Italian gas pipeline operator Snam have agreed to explore collaboration and joint investments to establish a supply chain to Europe, including the development of an ammonia import terminal in southern Italy.
Partners report that the voyage demonstrates “efficient and economic” future pathways for the transport of ammonia, particularly as the scale-up of new maritime fuels occurs. H2Global’s new €3 billion auction for long-term supplies of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives has received EU approval, including €1.2 billion for regional funding in Canada and Australia. H2Global also progressed partnerships with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and the Solar Energy Corporation of India.
In our December episode of Project Features, Woodside Energy joined us to discuss the Beaumont Clean Ammonia Project in the US Gulf Coast. 1.1 million tons per year of lower-carbon ammonia will be produced from 2026, targeting European import markets. The project bolsters Woodside’s existing and future energy commodity export plans, and sets them up as a first-mover in key global markets for low-emission ammonia.
Madoqua and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines will lead development of the corridor. Industry partners in the consortium include financiers, terminal operators, Port authorities, alternative fuel producers and offtakers. The transportation of liquified CO2 along the corridor will help establish a supply chain for sequestration of carbon emissions in Norway at Horisont Energi’s Gismarvik CO2 hub.
