TransCaspian ammonia exports: Kazakhstan to Europe
In Kazakhstan, the Hyrasia One project & Semurg Invest will develop a transport route for up to 11 million tonnes of renewable ammonia per year to the EU, via Port Kuryk on the Caspian Sea.
CCS-based ammonia exports from Australia & Canada to South Korea
Two mega-projects will establish CCS ammonia supply chains to South Korea for use as a power generation fuel. In Western Australia, Pilot Energy and new project partners Samsung C&T will develop the Mid West Clean Energy Project, while Hydrogen Canada Corp has announced a Korean offtaker for its production project near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
First Ammonia, Uniper to cooperate on Texas production project
First Ammonia’s renewable ammonia project in Texas has taken another step, with commodity giant Uniper joining as project partner. Renewable ammonia will be produced for export from the Port of Victoria starting in 2026.
Renewable ammonia exports from Brazil: Project Iracema
Meet partners developing Project Pecem in the northern state of Ceara, Brazil. The first phase of Project Iracema is set to come online in 2027, with the aim of producing ammonia compliant with certification requirements for the export of the renewable hydrogen to Europe. At full capacity, 2.2 million tonnes of grid-connected ammonia production capacity will be enabled.
Trade mission to Chile: report from the AEA President
AEA President Hans Vrijenhoef recently participated in an official hydrogen trade mission to Chile, addressing the audience at the Santiago Green Hydrogen Summit and securing interest to start planning Chile’s first ammonia-focused event. With a number of key challenges facing ammonia project developers in Latin America and the need to train & educate so many ammonia “newcomers”, 2024 will be the perfect opportunity to bring together all the key stakeholders.
EXMAR: ammonia-powered gas carriers on schedule for delivery
EXMAR’s two new Midsize Gas Carriers will be built at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea and fitted with ammonia dual-fuel engines. WinGD will supply the engines for the vessels, which are on track for delivery in early 2026.
thyssenkrupp Uhde & Hive Energy: renewable ammonia in Spain
thyssenkrupp Uhde will deliver the pre-FEED stage of Hive Energy’s ALBAMED I project to be located in Albacete, Spain. The project’s first phase is expected to produce over 1 million tonnes of renewable ammonia by 2030.
