Sungrow Hydrogen will provide alkaline electrolysers for a new hydrogen and ammonia project in Jilin province. China Energy Engineering Corporation is leading development of the project, which will produce 600,000 tons of renewable ammonia each year. In Inner Mongolia, construction has begun on a similar-sized plant, which will produce ammonia from wind and solar energy.

Air Liquide will invest up to $850 million to build, own and operate four large air separation units as part of ExxonMobil’s low-carbon hydrogen project in Baytown, Texas. The units will provide nitrogen and oxygen feedstocks to ExxonMobil, which will be used to produce low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia.
IGNIS has signed a development MoU with local authorities for an 800,000 tons per year renewable ammonia project, to be completed in 2031. A €400 million partnership with investment firm KKR will assist project finance.
Mizuho Financial, one of Japan’s largest banks, has outlined its near-term investment strategy for the “production and supply of hydrogen and related technologies by 2030”. Mizuho is offering ¥2 trillion worth of financing that will be committed to various projects and players globally, and is also engaged in various hydrogen and ammonia initiatives.
The joint venture between Fortescue and OCP will supply hydrogen, ammonia and fertiliser to the Moroccan market and beyond. Meanwhile in Australia, Fortescue’s recently opened electrolyser production facility will produce 2 GW of PEM electrolysers per year.
OCI Global will deliver ammonia produced at its Texas plant to COMPO EXPERT in Germany, replacing 25% of its feedstock with low-carbon ammonia from this year. Meanwhile, the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) will offtake 200,000 tons of renewable ammonia per year from ACME’s under-development plant in Gopalpur, Odisha. This second deal will be facilitated by the use of “Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes” (or ITMOs), a credit mechanism established by the Paris Agreement.
Black & Veatch has completed FEED work for Phase 1 of the Point Tupper project in Nova Scotia. With construction on track to begin later this year, ammonia production is expected to commence in 2026: 240,000 tons per year from electrolytic hydrogen powered by onshore renewables. EverWind Fuels also indicates that the project has been pre-certified by CertifHy™, meaning produced ammonia will meet compliance rules for exports to the EU.
CF Industries and JERA will work towards development of a 1.4 million tons per year, gas-based mega-project at CF’s planned Blue Point complex in Ascension Parish. JERA will explore a 48% ownership stake in the new project, with FID scheduled within a year. In Odisha, India, JERA will work with ReNew on the development of a renewables-based ammonia project.
Discussions will commence for the supply, purchase, and sale of ammonia from two of CIP’s ongoing mega-projects - St. Charles in Louisiana and Murchison in Western Australia - to Lotte in South Korea. Meanwhile, Lotte has selected KBR’s synthesis technology for its hydro-ammonia production project in Malaysia.
