PurpleGreen: renewable ammonia exports from Latvia
Latvia-based PurpleGreen Energy will deliver 550,000 tons per year of ammonia over a twenty-year contract period to German energy trader Select Energy. The under-development renewable ammonia production plant at the Port of Ventspils on the Baltic Sea is scheduled to begin operations in early 2029, powered by renewable electricity from Latvia’s national grid.
Topsoe to begin solid oxide electrolyser production in Denmark
Topsoe’s SOE manufacturing plant in Herning, Denmark is on-track to begin operations this year, with the first 100 MW of units to be delivered in early 2025 to First Ammonia for its renewable ammonia production project in Port of Victoria, Texas.
AM Green taps engineering, electrolysis providers for renewable mega-project
John Cockerill will supply a total of 1.3 GW of alkaline electrolysers for AM Green’s under-development renewable ammonia plant in Kakinada, India. John Cockerill and Technip Energies joint venture Rely with full engineering and commissioning services, with ammonia production due to begin in late 2026. In related news, BASF and AM Green will explore offtake of 100,000 tons per year of renewable ammonia from India.
Atlas Agro, IRM: low-emission fertilizer offtake from Washington state
Atlas Agro and International Raw Materials have signed a binding offtake agreement for fertilizer to be produced at Atlas Agro’s under-development plant in Richland, Washington state.
CWP Global joins renewable ammonia project in Angola
CWP Global has joined an existing consortium with plans to build a 400,000 tons per year renewable ammonia project in Angola, powered by spare hydroelectric power generation.
RWE to offtake RFNBO-compliant renewable ammonia from India
RWE Supply & Trading will offtake 250,000 tons per year of AM Green Ammonia’s RFNBO-compliant ammonia from production sites in India. The ammonia is expected to be delivered from 2027.
Ohmium to develop PEM electrolysers for floating ammonia production
Ohmium will develop 300 MW of PEM electrolyser capacity for SwitcH2’s offshore hydrogen and ammonia production vessel. Moored off the coast of southern Europe, the 268m-long vessel will be powered by nearshore renewable energy, and the electrolysers fed by desalinated seawater, producing enough ammonia to “fuel multiple oceangoing vessels for a full year”.
Uzbekistan renewable pilot progresses
LONGi Hydrogen announced the delivery of four alkaline electrolyser units to ACWA Power’s 20 MW, renewable ammonia pilot project in Uzbekistan. To help finance the project, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development committed to a $65 million assistance package in August.
