4.4 million tonnes per year renewable ammonia in Chile

Total Eren will lead development of the H2 Magallanes project in southern Chile. Up to 10 GW of onshore wind capacity will power 8 GW of electrolysers, a desalination plant, an ammonia production plant and port facilities to export the product to local and global markets. At full capacity, 4.4 million tonnes of renewable ammonia will be produced every year. Although H2 Magallanes is still in the pre-feasability stage, it will be launched in 2025, with the aim to begin hydrogen electrolysis in 2027.

Mauritania ammonia mega-project enters next phase

This week in Glasgow, CWP Global and the Mauritanian government announced a timeline & production capacity for the mega project. The partners also call for the development of associated decarbonisation projects in Mauritania, helping to develop a local hydrogen & ammonia economy. Announced in June, the Aman project will be located on a 8,500 km2 desert site in the country’s north and be powered by 30 GW of wind and solar capacity.

thyssenkrupp to expand electrolyser production five-fold

thyssenkrupp's annual production output of 1 GW alkaline water electrolysis cells will expand five-fold, thanks to new funding from Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research. There is also federal funding for two additional projects: H2Mare (offshore ammonia production), and TransHyDE (ammonia cracking solutions).

Maire Tecnimont and Greenfield Nitrogen have agreed to develop a green ammonia plant in Iowa, USA. Maire Tecnimont subsidiary NextChem will lead a feasibility study into a 240 tonne per day green ammonia plant based on Stamicarbon's Green Ammonia Technology.
