Amogy’s ammonia-powered tugboat

Built in 1957 and originally powered by diesel generators and electric motors, the tugboat, named the NH₃ Kraken, is being retrofitted with a 1 MW version of Amogy’s ammonia-to-power system. Amogy’s system employs a unique catalyst to crack ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen for direct integration into a fuel cell, which powers the electric motors to enable zero-carbon shipping, based on ammonia fuel.

In this webinar, Amogy will provide insight into their approach to retrofitting the NH₃ Kraken and Chief Safety Solutions will discuss how they are guiding Amogy through safety compliance requirements and through working with regulatory bodies like the United States Coast Guard.
