Built in 1957 and originally powered by diesel generators and electric motors, the tugboat, named the NH3 Kraken, is being retrofitted with a 1 MW version of Amogy’s ammonia-to-power system. Amogy’s system employs a unique catalyst to crack ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen for direct integration into a fuel cell, which powers the electric motors to enable zero-carbon shipping, based on ammonia fuel.
In this webinar, Amogy will provide insight into their approach to retrofitting the NH3 Kraken and Chief Safety Solutions will discuss how they are guiding Amogy through safety compliance requirements and through working with regulatory bodies like the United States Coast Guard. Abigail Jablansky (Head of Project Management at Amogy) and Herbert Fowlkes (Chief Safety Consultant at Chief Safety Solutions) joined AEA Maritime Director Conor Fürstenberg Stott in conversation.
