Ammonia Energy Conference Announced for Europe
By Stephen H. Crolius on March 03, 2017
Proton Ventures announced yesterday that the “1st European Conference on Sustainable Ammonia Solutions” will take place on the 18th and 19th of May. The conference will be held at the RDM Congrescentrum in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Proton Ventures, a Dutch engineering firm that specializes in “distributed” ammonia synthesis plants, is one of the conference’s sponsors.
Three of the conference’s other five sponsors are also headquartered in the Netherlands. They include the technology incubator Institute for Sustainable Process Technology (ISPT), the electrical utility Nuon, and the engineering firm Vicoma Engineering.
Rounding out the sponsor group are Casale and Yara. Casale is a Swiss construction engineering firm and ammonia technology licensor with long history and deep involvement with ammonia production. Yara is headquartered in Norway and is one of the largest ammonia producers in the world.
The stated goal of the conference is “to gather thought societies, industries and academics, including well-known experts, developers and scientists to present the latest research results, present achievements, application fields and business prospects in energy solutions.”
The keynote address will be given by Fokko Mulder. Mulder is Professor of Materials for Energy Conversion & Storage at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands. One of his inventions, the “battolyzer”, was the subject of a recent story in Ammonia Energy News.
Each of the conference sponsors will deliver one or more presentations in the course of the proceedings. Other speakers will be familiar to attendees of recent NH3 Fuel Conferences in the U.S. Included in this group are Ian Wilkinson of Siemens (“Green Ammonia for Energy Storage and Beyond”); Bill David of Oxford University (“Novel Ammonia Cracking Catalysts”); Norm Olson, President of the NH3 Fuel Association (“NH3 – The World’s Optimal Energy Solution”); and Trevor Brown, Publisher and Co-Editor of the Ammonia Energy Newsletter (“How Current Industry Structures Will Change as Ammonia Moves from Being a Fertilizer to an Energy Commodity”).
There will also be presentations from a variety of European experts, including Jouni Savolainen, of the VTT Technical Research Center of Finland whose presentation is entitled “Operational Optimization and Simulation of Power to Ammonia Process”; Joey Dobrée from the Dutch urea producer Stamicarbon whose presentation is entitled “Domestic Urea Production for Fertilzer and AdBlue Applications”; and Giovanni Cinti of the Università degli Studi di Perugia in Italy whose presentation is entitled “Power to Ammonia: The Role of Fuel Cells”.
Speakers and/or titles for many other presentation slots have not yet been announced.
The fee to register for both days of the conference is €495 (excluding value-added tax).
