Successful bidder in SECI reverse auction
Click to learn more about ACME’s successful bid in India’s first renewable ammonia reverse auction, achieving a fixed delivery price of $641 per ton.
ACME Cleantech is the first successful bidder in a series of green ammonia reverse auctions facilitated by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). From its Odisha mega-project in Gopalpur Industrial Park (under development with IHI), ACME will supply 75,000 tons per year of renewable ammonia to Paradeep Phosphates Limited over a ten-year fixed contract. The “discovered price” (or fixed delivery price) of ₹55.75/kg translates to approximately $641 per ton, a “substantial drop” from the previous delivery price of $1,153 per ton of renewable in H2Global’s first auction completed late last year. Similar to the H2Global scheme, this price is fixed across the full delivered volume, over a ten year contract.
As outlined by SECI in 2024 when the ammonia subsidy scheme was being set up, multiple reverse auctions would be conducted to subsidise a set volume renewable ammonia production, with fixed subsidy levels to be applied for the first three of the ten year lifespan of each contract. Each reverse auction would support the production of annual “parcels” of renewable ammonia, which would then be delivered to and used by Indian fertiliser manufacturers. In this latest announcement, SECI indicates that the total volume of ammonia production to be subsidised has substantially increased since last year: 724,000 tons per year of production will be subsidised, across thirteen reverse auction processes.
In a landmark development under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the first-ever auction conducted by SECI for the procurement of Green Ammonia under the SIGHT Scheme (Mode-2A) has achieved a record low price discovery of ₹55.75/kg. This price discovery marks a watershed moment in India’s Green Hydrogen journey and reinforces the country’s vision of becoming a global hub for Green Hydrogen production. The auction witnessed intense competition, reflecting the strong investor and developer confidence in India’s green energy transition framework.
SECI congratulates M/s ACME Cleantech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., the winning bidder, for achieving this historic tariff. The cost-discovery-based model deployed here directly addresses one of the sector’s biggest barriers – offtake assurance for Green Hydrogen derivatives.
