Amogy, A*STAR target ammonia-to-power demo on Jurong Island
By Julian Atchison on September 30, 2025
Amogy and the Singaporean government agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) have signed a new partnership to validate and deploy ammonia energy technologies in Singapore. As “Singapore’s lead public sector R&D agency”, A*STAR will join Amogy in R&D on ammonia cracking catalysts, develop digital tools and workforce training programs for scale-up, and eventually demonstrate one of Amogy’s ammonia-to-power systems on Jurong Island. In South Korea, Amogy is embarking on a similar partnership with project execution specialist GS Engineering & Construction, with a 1 MW version of its system to be deployed in Pohang next year. Amogy is targeting a similar deployment in Taiwan.
We are excited to partner with A*STAR to demonstrate the potential of ammonia-powered technology in Singapore. This collaboration marks an important step toward advancing decarbonization in critical sectors such as data centers and heavy industry, while contributing to Singapore’s leadership in driving towards a low-carbon future.
Seonghoon Woo, CEO of Amogy, in his organisation’s official press release, 23 Sept 2025
A*STAR looks forward to our partnership with Amogy to support Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy and our own efforts in sustainable energy and chemicals. By advancing technologies for low- or zero-carbon ammonia for power generation and bunkering, we can help pave the way to decarbonise hard-to-abate industries. I look forward to programme outcomes that will contribute substantively to Amogy’s and Singapore’s economic and sustainability goals.
Professor Lim Keng Hui, Assistant Chief Executive, Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), A*STAR, in Amogy’s official press release, 23 Sept 2025
The announcement indicates that the pair are targeting a new energy demand-growth sector in Singapore: power for data centres. Together with the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore, A*STAR has been a key signatory in a number of marine ammonia fuel initiatives, including the Australia-Singapore Initiative on Low Emissions Technologies (ASLET).
