FEED complete
EverWind Fuels announced that Black & Veatch has completed FEED work for Phase 1 of the Point Tupper project in Nova Scotia. Point Tupper’s environmental assessment approval was granted in February 2023, and in June 2023 the necessary onshore wind power for the project was acquired, with three separate wind farms to be built. With construction on track to begin later this year, ammonia production is expected to commence in 2026. In Phase 1, 240,000 tons per year of ammonia will be produced from electrolytic hydrogen. E.ON and Uniper have already announced offtake deals with EverWind for ammonia imports to Germany.
We are thrilled to be among the first globally to have completed FEED engineering for our green hydrogen and green ammonia production facility. This accomplishment is representative of the detailed and important trailblazing work that EverWind is doing to enable our project to drive down the cost of the energy transition – work that is required to secure long-term, multi-billion dollar contracts. This marks a significant step forward in our mission to develop a green fuels hub in Atlantic Canada, and we look forward to continuing our work with Black & Veatch, a world leader in engineering and construction services as we move towards construction and operations.

Community engagement for the Point Tupper project has been a lengthy, ongoing process, which includes local union and labor organisations. Local First Nations tribes have been included as equity partners in the project.
The completion of FEED marks just the beginning of an exciting journey towards a cleaner, brighter tomorrow. As equity partners with EverWind, we support the transition to green energy and envision a future where environmental stewardship and economic prosperity go hand in hand.

The Mi’kmaw have been stewards of these lands for thousands of years, yet we have been shut out of participating in and benefitting from the development of natural resources. This approach isn’t just about economics; it’s about building genuine partnerships based on mutual respect and understanding, supporting a future of reconciliation.

EverWind’s generational project will not only provide significant opportunities to Nova Scotia’s unionized contractors and construction tradespersons, by supporting the employment of apprentices, EverWind will help to develop Nova Scotia’s next generation of construction trades professionals.

PEM electrolysers, water, CertifHy™ compliant
In more project updates, EverWind has initiated they will utilise PEM electrolysers, and Casale will provide ammonia synthesis technology. The nearby Landrie Lake system – which already supplies water to the Point Tupper industrial park where the project will be located – will provide water for electrolysis, and the authority is confident increased demands will be able to be met without endangering drinking water supplies for the local communities.
In July 2023 it was indicated that an auditor would be engaged to ensure ammonia from Point Tupper met RNFBO standards for import into the EU. In this FEED announcement, EverWind also revealed that the project has been pre-certified by CertifHy™, meeting compliance rules for exports to Germany.
ILF is pleased to partner with EverWind as owner’s engineers on its transformational green ammonia project. We are proud to continue to advance leading engineering and support EverWind’s compliance to strict green fuels production criteria including EU RED II definition of Renewable Fuels from a Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO). We are excited to ensuring that EverWind continues to set new standards in sustainable energy.
