EXMAR, Trammo: successful ship-to-ship transfer in Oman
By Julian Atchison on March 30, 2026
Full cargo transfer between mid-sized gas carriers
This January, a full cargo load of ammonia was successfully transferred from EXMAR’s 38,500m³ capacity KORTRIJK to a similar-sized Trammo vessel, at the port of Sohar in northern Oman. The STS transfer in Oman paves the way for operations of new vessels in EXMAR’s fleet, with the first of four 46,000m³ capacity mid-sized gas carriers (featuring WinGD dual-fuel ammonia engines) to be shortly delivered to EXMAR in South Korea. The ammonia cargo transfer aspect is also crucial, as EXMAR and Lloyd’s Register led development of interim guidelines for the safe use of ammonia cargo as fuel on ammonia carriers, after the IMO lifted its prohibition on the use of toxic cargoes as fuel in 2024.
Join us on Wed 15th April for an online discussion with EXMAR and Lloyd’s Register. We will explore EXMAR’s five-year journey to ammonia-fueled vessels, the development of guidelines for the safe use of ammonia cargo as fuel on ammonia carriers, and upcoming sea trials for the first of the MGCs to be launched in South Korea. Kristof Coppé (Director Fleet Operations & Technical Business Development, EXMAR), and Peter Van de Graaf (Strategic Business Partner, Lloyd’s Register) will be joined in conversation by AEA Technology Manager Kevin Rouwenhorst to discuss EXMAR’s upcoming ammonia-fueled vessels and its partnerships to advance safe operations for these vessels. Join us on Wednesday 15 April @ 9AM EDT (3PM CEST) for a fascinating discussion, and be sure to submit your questions for the speakers when registering.
