1.1 million tons per year at the Gopalpur Industrial Park
Hygenco will establish a mega-scale renewable ammonia project in the Gopalpur Industrial Park, as part of a new agreement with the Tata Steel Special Economic Zone. Hygenco intends to commission the initial phase of the project by December 2026, and it is the third organisation (along with ACME and Avaada) to be developing a mega-ammonia plant in Gopalpur.
Having already demonstrated our mettle in the space of Green Hydrogen by commissioning India’s first Green Hydrogen project earlier this year, we will extend application of our superior technology to this project thereby producing lowest cost Green Ammonia for our clients. In line with our strategic vision of being a dominant player in this sector worldwide, the produce from this plant, in the initial phase, will be predominantly exported for which advanced discussions with various off-takers are already taking place.
Amit Bansal, Founder and CEO, Hygenco in his organisation’s official press release, 7 May 2024
We are very happy to have Hygenco on-board with us at the Industrial Park. This solidifies our Industrial Park as a potential green hydrogen/ammonia hub of the country.
Manikanta Naik, Managing Director, Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited in Hygenco’s official press release, 7 May 2024
Hygenco recently commissioned the Steel One project, one of India’s first MW-scale, electrolytic hydrogen production plants. Located near Hisar City in northern India, the plant is designed to supply continuous renewable hydrogen to JIndal Stainless Steel’s adjacent complex, where hydrogen will replace ammonia in the stainless steel heat treatment process. Initially sized at 75 tons per year, the plant will scale to 250 tons per year capacity, and a 20 year offtake deal has been signed by Jindal.
