Pelican Sequestration Hub: emissions offtake from CF, JERA ammonia mega-project

1PointFive, Enbridge form joint venture in Louisiana
The pair will form a 50:50 joint venture to develop the Pelican Sequestration Hub. 1PointFive will develop the facilities and infrastructure required to sequester captured CO2 underground in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, while Enbridge will build and operate pipelines to transport compressed, liquefied CO2 from customer facilities to the hub. The Pelican Sequestration Hub is already “anchored” by a 25 year offtake agreement between CF and 1PointFive for ~2.3 million tons of CO2 per year from the Blue Point project: a joint venture between CF Industries, JERA, and Mitsui & Co. that will produce 1.4 million tons per year of low-carbon ammonia.
We look forward to combining our expertise managing carbon dioxide with Enbridge’s deep capabilities in energy transportation to create a comprehensive solution to unlock value from carbon dioxide. Our project highlights the important role that we believe sequestration can play in strengthening Louisiana’s industries and providing new opportunities for economic development.
Jeff Alvarez, President of 1PointFive Sequestration, in his organisation’s official press release, 10 Sept 2025
For the Blue Point project, the partners will construct an autothermal reforming (ATR) ammonia production facility coupled with an onsite CO2 dehydration and compression unit, preparing emissions for transportation and eventual sequestration. 1PointFive will transport CO2 along Enbridge’s pipeline network, and sequester >95% of the site’s annual emissions. 1PointFive has already taken FID on the Pelican Sequestration Hub, with the all-important Class VI site currently moving through the state-based approvals process.
