LONGi delivers electrolysers to site
LONGi Hydrogen announced the delivery of four 1000Nm³ per hour high-current-density, medium-pressure alkaline electrolyser units to ACWA Power’s renewable ammonia pilot project in Uzbekistan. The 3,000 tons per year hydrogen pilot will eventually scale to 500,000 tons of ammonia production per year, becoming ACWA’s second utility-scale renewable ammonia project (after NEOM in Saudi Arabia). Hydrogen feedstock will be utilised for ammonia (and subsequently fertiliser) production at an adjacent, existing facility run by state-owned company Uzkimyosanoat. ACWA, POWERCHINA Huadong Engineering and LONGi Hydrogen are collaborating on the 20 MW pilot plant.
This project marks a significant milestone in Uzbekistan’s energy history, representing the first phase of our collaboration. We are proud to be working with our partners to deliver the green hydrogen project, which will make a deep impact on the country’s ambitious energy transition plans. Looking ahead, we are committed to progressing further in the near future to achieve even greater milestones.

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development assists with project finance
In August, the EBRD announced that it would provide $65 million (€58 million) to ACWA and Uzkimyosanoat for the development, design, construction and operation of the facility. This includes 20 MW of LONGi electrolysers that will be powered by a newbuild, 52 MW wind power facility. Included in the total package are contributions from Canada (via the Special Fund for the High Impact Partnership on Climate Action), and the Japan-EBRD Cooperation fund.
EBRD is proud to finance this landmark renewable hydrogen facility in Uzbekistan with our long-standing partner ACWA Power and their partner Uzkimyosanoat. This is the first of its kind across Central Asia, a region with some of the most carbon-intensive and hard-to-abate industries.
