Japan consortium to explore ammonia imports to Osaka

    Julian Atchison September 04, 2023

Mitsui & Co., Mitsui Chemicals, IHI Corporation and the Kansai Electric Power Company will explore the establishment of a hydrogen & ammonia supply chain based in Osaka. Ammonia fuel will be used to decarbonise electricity generation, and cracked to provide a feedstock for other industrial processes like steel-making. In South Korea, a similar partnership is evolving between LOTTE and Air Liquide. You can learn more about the emerging nexus between ammonia cracking and steel-making at our upcoming annual conference in Atlanta, USA.

More ammonia energy giants head for the Gulf Coast

    Julian Atchison February 13, 2023

RWE, LOTTE, Mitsubishi will join forces to jointly develop a large-scale clean ammonia production & export project in the Port of Corpus Christi, Texas. At full size, the facility will produce 10 million tonnes per year of “green” and “blue” ammonia combined, to be exported to Europe and Asia. Also on the Gulf Coast, Linde will build, own and operate a CCS hydrogen & nitrogen production plant to supply gas feedstock to OCI’s world-scale ammonia facility in Beaumont, Texas.

Syzygy & LOTTE join forces to deploy cracking tech in South Korea

    Julian Atchison September 06, 2022

Syzygy Plasmonics, LOTTE and Sumitomo Corporation of Americas announced they will join forces to deploy & test Syzygy’s fully-electric, photocatalytic ammonia cracking reactor at LOTTE Chemical’s HQ in Ulsan, South Korea. Syzygy’s reactor technology uses light from ultra-high-efficiency LEDs to crack ammonia into zero-carbon hydrogen, eliminating combustion emissions usually associated with chemical manufacturing. The announcement is one of several new ammonia collaborations this week, with LOTTE, ITOCHU and Sasol all announcing new agreements.

    H2biscus: green ammonia in Malaysia

    Julian Atchison February 01, 2022

A trio of South Korean organisations - Samsung Engineering, POSCO and Lotte Chemical - will partner with the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to develop a new green hydrogen & ammonia project in Bintulu, eastern Malaysia. The combination of plentiful hydropower, existing gas infrastructure and existing petrochemical production facilities in Bintulu means the H2biscus partners are focusing on a suite of export products - hydrogen, ammonia & methanol - with both green and blue characteristics.
