Click to learn more. ACWA’s under-development project in Yanbu Saudi Arabia will generate over 2 million tonnes per year of renewable ammonia. Germany-based EnBW will act as offtaker of the project.
An MoU has been signed between ACWA, EnBW, Rostock Port and German gas operator VNG to set up a renewable ammonia corridor linking ACWA’s under development Yanbu renewable ammonia project in Saudi Arabia to the Port of Rostock in Germany.
In Rostock, the inbound ammonia will be used for hydrogen generation for the German market, using VNG’s under development ammonia cracker facility at the port. The corridor will contribute towards the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors and serve as a strategic entry point into Germany.
Partnering with EnBW, ACWA is developing the Yanbu renewable hydrogen and ammonia production site in Saudi Arabia, with commercial operations planned for 2030. The integrated facility will feature 4 GW of electrolysis capacity, generating 400,000 tons of renewable hydrogen and about 2.2 million tons of renewable ammonia annually. The FEED process for the plant is underway under the charge of Tecnicas Reunidas and Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering, and is scheduled for completion by mid-2026. EnBW will offtake the renewable ammonia from the facility and oversee its delivery to the Port of Rostock.
It leverages Acwa’s Yanbu hub, where we lead development with support from EnBW, to deliver scale for Europe’s hydrogen needs, with processing at Rostock for core network injection. These assets accelerate global decarbonization, bolster energy security, and affirm our role as Saudi Arabia’s green molecules champion.

International partnerships like this are essential if we want to advance and make the transformation of the energy system affordable and bring innovative solutions to market. Each partner brings complementary strengths, and by working together, we are able to address challenges more effectively than we could individually.
Georg Stamatelopoulos, EnBW CEO, in ACWA’s official press release, 1 February 2026
The signing of this agreement marks a significant milestone in developing a hydrogen economy between our countries and represents a major step forward for Rostock’s energy port. By forming this cooperation, we are establishing a strategic, more efficient and forward-thinking framework for securing a long-term supply of green energy and further investment in Germany.
