Steel cutting begins at HD Hyundai Mipo in Ulsan
The construction of EXMAR’s first 46,000 m3 midsized gas carrier vessel began in December last year. Steel cutting for the 90m long vessel was announced by both parties, with four vessels in total to be constructed capable of carrying LPG and ammonia in three cargo holds. The four ordered vessels are on track for delivery in 2026, and will be powered by dual-fuel WinGD engines.
Further vessel details were presented at the AEA’s annual conference last year. The 46,000 m3 cargo volume corresponds to about 30,700 tons of ammonia per vessel. Fuel ammonia will be stored in 2x 500 m3 pressurized, type C storage tanks on the deck of the vessels. Wärtsilä Gas Solutions will provide the ammonia fuel supply and cargo handling systems, as well as a release mitigation system. Once sailing, EXMAR reports that the GHG intensity of vessel operations will be reduced by around 90%.
