Duiker Clean Technologies and new partners Plant One have chosen the Port of Rotterdam as the location for the installation of the AMMONEX ammonia cracking pilot plant. FID on the project was taken in 2025, and testing on the new facility is expected to take place in 2027. Based on two pieces of Duiker technology – a cracking reactor with proprietary catalyst, and Duiker’s SCO (Stoichiometric Controlled Oxidation) ammonia combustion system – the overall process has been in development since 2022.
This agreement marks an important step in the realization of AMMONEX. The pilot enables us to validate our technology in practice and make a concrete contribution to sustainable hydrogen value chains.
Mark van Welsen, Managing Director of Duiker Clean Technologies, in his organisation’s official press release, 4 Feb 2026
With AMMONEX, we strengthen our role as a testing ground for innovative and sustainable process technologies and support the acceleration of the energy transition in the Rotterdam port area.
Pascal Spiekerman, COO of Plant One, in Duiker’s official press release, 4 Feb 2026
Projects like AMMONEX are essential for building new sustainable energy value chains, such as the import of green hydrogen. They strengthen the port’s international position and provide an important boost to future energy security, the economy, and employment.
Mark Stoelinga, Director of Energy at the Port of Rotterdam Authority, in Duiker’s official press release, 4 Feb 2026
The AMMONEX project is supported by funding from the European Union, and the Dutch Ministry of Climate and Green Growth (part of the Demonstration Energy and Climate Innovation (DEI+) subsidy scheme).
