Midstream hub to be based in Krk, Croatia
Project developer Green Energy Park has announced that its first ammonia production & export facility will be located in Brazil. Together with the State of Piauí, the project will feature 5 GW of renewable energy generation, with an initial production capacity of one million tonnes of ammonia per year. Ammonia produced at this upstream facility will be exported to a midstream distribution hub on the island of Krk in Croatia.
Green Energy Park Krk will be based at an industrial site with existing ammonia storage, deep-water berths. Distribution to key industrial regions like northern Italy and southern Germany is already established, including road, rail and barge options. Green Energy Park is aiming for the Krk midstream facility to have a throughput capacity of 10 million tonnes of ammonia per year, with operations to start in 2027. Green Energy Park is planning a minimum of eight, GW-scale upstream production facilities, including the new Piauí project (indicative locations include the US Gulf Coast, northeast USA, Namibia/South Africa, the Middle East and India).
We welcome private parties to join our open franchise network and collaborate with us along the various parts of the hydrogen value chain. Our mission is to unite upstream, midstream, and downstream facilities and coordinate the timing and scale of investment activities between our network partners. Our common goal is to decarbonize energy at competitive prices for future generations to live in prosperity and in a vibrant, healthy environment.
Bart Biebuyck, CEO of Green Energy Park in his organisation’s official press release, 11 Oct 2023
The signature of this memorandum represents a step towards the fulfilment of the State’s ambition of becoming an international leader in Green Hydrogen supply. The State’s great potential for producing Solar and Wind energy was recognized by the CEO of Green Energy Park, Mr. Bart Biebuyck. The State’s compromise is to give full support to the intents of Green Energy Park to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia, the energy carrier of the future, in Piauí. The group has projects along the entire hydrogen value chain and is betting on our State for this 5 giga-watt upstream facility. Count on our support.
