Navigator Gas has made a $2.5 million investment in Texas-based clean ammonia developer Ten08 Energy, which plans to develop a CCS-based and renewable ammonia production export facility in the US Gulf Coast.
Phase one of the project, scheduled to come online by early 2030, will feature the production of 1.4 million tons-per-year train of low-carbon ammonia. Target markets include shipping, fertiliser, power generation and chemical manufacturing. For the renewable aspect of the project, Ten08 has just announced a strategic partnership with Ohmium to provide PEM electrolysers, which will produce hydrogen feedstock.
Navigator Gas joins lead investor Attis Clean Energy, and has secured rights to make further investments of up to $100 million of preferred equity at FID. This would go towards terminal and export infrastructure development, and participation in future expansions. As well as its successful ship-to-ship transfer of ammonia this year in South Africa, Navigator Gas has announced the order of new ammonia-capable carrier vessels, and is considering the expansion of existing terminal infrastructure in Houston to accommodate increased ammonia transport flows.
Clean ammonia is crucial to the success of the energy transition for both power generation and carbon free shipping, and the Ten08 project will play a critical role in further developing the clean ammonia industry. As a result of this investment, we look forward to strengthening our working relationships with numerous customers and partners around the world.
Mads Peter Zacho, Navigator Gas CEO, in his organisation’s official press release, 8 August 2024
Ten08 is designing its ammonia production facility to be as low carbon as possible at each step of the supply chain while simultaneously achieving our objective of bringing the most competitive clean ammonia molecule to market. This includes among other times, high capture rates of CO2 to minimise Scope 1 emissions and the sourcing of low methane intensity certified gas and renewable power to minimise Scope 2 and 3 emissions. Our partnership with Navigator Gas completes the picture, enabling low-emission transport and delivery of our ultra-low-carbon ammonia to offtakers. We are firm believers in the need for industrial partnerships across the value chain with strategic investors such as Navigator Gas to realize our shared ambition of decarbonising the power, shipping and fertiliser sectors.
