Reliance to manufacture Nel electrolysers in India

Through its electrolyser subsidiary, Nel ASA has signed a technology licensing agreement with Reliance Industries Limited, granting exclusive rights to manufacture alkaline electrolysers based on Nel’s technology in India. Reliance will also have a licence to manufacture Nel’s alkaline electrolysers for “captive purposes” globally.
As part of the agreement, the two parties will also co-operate in R&D focused on improving the competitiveness of the alkaline technology platform, with key factors including performance, cost optimization, value engineering, standardisation and modularization.
Nel still reserves the right to serve the Indian market with its other electrolyser technology platforms not covered by the agreement. Reliance is building a multi-GW, integrated end-to-end new energy value chain and sees “green molecules’ such as electrolytically produced hydrogen & ammonia as a part of that mix.
The signing of this agreement is a great milestone in Nel’s history. Reliance is an impressive company with enormous ambitions as a global producer of renewable hydrogen, and I am proud that they have selected Nel as their technology partner. In addition to supporting Reliance in achieving their global aspirations, Nel will through this agreement get a revenue stream from a rapidly growing market Nel could not have accessed on its own.

This announcement follows Nel’s recent deal with Hy Stor for the supply of over 1GW of alkaline electrolyser capacity for the Mississippi Clean Hydrogen Hub project. Nel is also the electrolyser supplier for Fertiberia’s Puertollano project, producing electrolytic hydrogen feedstock for fertiliser manufacturing in Spain.
