Swiss agribusiness to export to European, Asian markets
The pair have signed a supply agreement from Hygenco’s under-development, $2.5 billion renewable ammonia project in Gopalpur Port, Odisha. In the first phase of this project, over 200,000 tons per year of ammonia will be produced from electrolytic hydrogen, beginning in 2027. By 2028 this production capacity will double, and the full capacity of 1.1 million tons per year will be reached by 2030. Hygenco recently commissioned the Steel One project, one of India’s first MW-scale, electrolytic hydrogen production plants.
Inspired by the age-old philosophy that the world is one family, we are proud to announce a visionary partnership with Ameropa to support their decarbonization goals. At Hygenco, we leverage our advanced technology and pioneering expertise in Green Hydrogen to produce the ‘Greenest of Green’ Ammonia, ensuring it is economical, reliable, and safe. This term sheet highlights India’s exceptional position to lead globally in this sector, by harnessing its abundant renewable energy resources and strong infrastructure.

The pair plan to establish supply chains from India to Europe and Asia, capturing a significant share of developing global markets for low-carbon ammonia. Amongst other applications, Ameropa plans to supply the ammonia for the manufacture of fertilisers.
The announcement is not Ameropa’s first foray into ammonia. This year, the Swiss agribusiness reportedly signed pre-offtake terms for the supply of renewable ammonia from Ocior Energy’s under-development project next to the Suez Canal in Egypt, and in July 2022 agreed to collaborate on marketing for renewable ammonia and methanol produced by Hynfra. Hynfra is currently developing a renewable ammonia production project in Jordan.
