Ammonia from USA, Australia bound for Korea
CIP and Lotte have announced a new ammonia collaboration agreement. Discussions will commence for the supply, purchase, and sale of ammonia from two ongoing mega-projects – the CCS-based St. Charles project in Louisiana and the renewable project in Murchison, Western Australia – to Lotte in South Korea. Development partnerships and investments in further production projects, new infrastructure (including bunkering), and supply chain development will also be explored as part of the new MoU.
We are delighted to cooperate with CIP, a global leader in greenfield renewable energy investments. With the Korean government’s strong policy support on energy transition, Korea will be the fastest growing market for clean hydrogen and ammonia. We will take [the] lead in providing sustainable clean ammonia by utilising the strengths and expertise of both companies.
JinKoo Hwang, CEO & Head of Hydrogen Business Group of LOTTE Chemical Corporation in CIP’s official press release, 5 Mar 2024
We believe blue and green ammonia will co-exist for many years, as we gradually transition from fossil-based production. And we continue to see significant opportunities for both in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. We are proud of the new partnership with LOTTE on ammonia projects development and offtake to Korea and consider it an important step that could open further opportunities for our Energy Transition Fund.

KBR technology selected for Lotte’s Malaysia project
Lotte Chemical has selected KBR’s K-GreeN® technology for its under-development H2biscus renewable ammonia project development in Sarawak, Malaysia. A technology license and a proprietary engineering design will be provided for the 800,000 tons per year facility, which will be powered by hydroelectricity from Malaysia’s grid.
We are pleased to work with Lotte Chemical and support their energy transition objectives with our zero-carbon K-GreeN® technology. KBR is a leader in advancing clean hydrogen technologies and solutions, and green ammonia is a key enabler to achieving global net zero targets. Our green ammonia solutions and complementary technologies such as H2ACT make KBR the preferred technology licensors for major energy transition projects around the world.
