Commodity trader Trammo and ExxonMobil have signed a Heads of Agreement to further discussions for Trammo’s long-term offtake of between 300,000 to 500,000 tons per year of CCS-based ammonia from Exxon’s project in Baytown, Texas. The facility will produce CCS-based hydrogen, with about 98% of CO2 capture, which will be subsequently used for ammonia production. Trammo will market, sell and deliver the ammonia in Europe and other markets, targeting the fertiliser and other key industries.
Trammo would join the likes of JERA and SK Inc. who have already committed to offtake part of the ammonia produced from this project. In September last year, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) acquired a 35% equity stake in the project.
Set to become operational in 2029, the large-scale facility will have a production capacity of over 1 million tons per year of low-carbon ammonia. FID for the project is expected this year.
Our Baytown project continues to make significant strides, attracting more and more customer interest. We’re looking forward to working with Trammo on this first-of-its-kind project which would be a win for America’s Gulf Coast, creating jobs and enhancing U.S. energy exports.

Trammo is delighted to partner with ExxonMobil in the Baytown project and to sign this HOA. Both companies have a common interest in developing clean and decarbonized solutions for consumers worldwide, including the European market, and this partnership furthers Trammo’s goal of making available in the market significant volumes of low-carbon ammonia by 2030.
