Mitsubishi, Hygenco: a renewable ammonia supply chain from India to APAC
By Julian Atchison on October 29, 2025
Together, the pair will develop a “master plan” for production, transport and utilization of renewable ammonia to Japan, Singapore, and other APAC markets. The plan will include a study of the facilities and logistics required for hydrogen and ammonia export from India, and will be supported by Japanese government agency METI (as part of the Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation supplementary program). Hygenco is developing a renewable ammonia mega-project near Gopalpur Port, Odisha, which has been pre-certified by Bureau Veritas, and has a supply agreement signed with Swiss commodity trader Ameropa.
From bids to breakthroughs: exploring India’s developing production industry
Click to expand. Renewable electricity sourcing and requirements for renewable ammonia producers under the SECI auction rounds. From Shri Sivakumar V Vepakomma, SECI Green Ammonia Tender (Oct 2025).
At a recent World Bank (ESMAP) webinar, speakers explored results from SECI’s recent renewable ammonia auction rounds, and how the renewable hydrogen and ammonia production ecosystem is developing India. SECI outlined how renewable ammonia producers are responsible for renewable electricity sourcing and access to the electricity network, as well as some project timelines. Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC, which has provided a more than $600 million loan for the Blue Point mega-project in the USA), outlined some challenges and possibilities for funding individual parts of the emerging India-Japan supply chain (including production projects).
