After two successful years, the NH3 Event returns on June 6 & 7 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, for the third edition. Ammonia is still an underestimated route to achieving a sustainable energy economy. At the NH3 Event, members of the energy community, including the public, NGOs, policy-makers, industries, and academics — including well-known experts, developers, and scientists — gather to present the latest research results and commercial achievements, and to discuss new application fields and business prospects for ammonia in energy solutions. And this year with very interesting names!
The conference will begin with the perspective of Ad van Wijk on sustainable energy. “We are very proud that we can present Prof. Dr. Ad van Wijk, sustainable energy entrepreneur and Professor Future Energy Systems at TU Delft, as keynote speaker,” says Hans Vrijenhoef, a board member of the Ammonia Energy Association and chairman of Stichting NH3 Event Europe. “Professor Ad van Wijk is known as a hydrogen ambassador. We look forward to hearing his vision on sustainable energy and ammonia (NH3) as an energy carrier.”
Beside the keynote of Ad van Wijk, the NH3 Event also presents Edward Cussler, professor at the University of Minnesota, to tell his vision on Isothermal Ammonia Synthesis and Separation. David Viano, Research Scientist at CSIRO will update us on the Pilot-scale ammonia-to-hydrogen refueling system for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles. Rick Musleh of the Government of Saskatchewan is also back again this year to show how GHG emissions in the Province of Saskatchewan will be reduced.
“We are also very proud that we could add companies and institutions like Siemens, KBR Consulting, International Energy Agency, C-Job Naval Architects, Hydrogenics, MAN Energy Solutions, RenCat Aps, German Aerospace Center, Pinehurst Farm, Dalian Institute, and Voltachem to this year’s program,” says Vrijenhoef. “Next to all those companies, we have the academic track. Just like last year we add leading universities to our list of presenters, like Tohoku University, UCLouvain, TU Delft, Cardiff University, Oita University, and University of Twente. We are very curious about all the new insights these universities will present to us!”
Speaker-slots from representatives
Beside the independent sessions, representatives from Proton Ventures, Yara, Casale, thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions, and Haldor Topsøe will be speaking at the conference. Karsten Büker, Principal Chemist at thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions will present a paper that gives an overview of the Carbon2Chem® project, a cross-industry approach realizing carbon capture and usage (CCU) by proven technologies. John Bøgild Hansen, Senior Principal Scientist at Haldor Topsøe gives us an insight in the SOC4NH3 Project in Denmark. The content of the presentations by gold partners Proton Ventures, Yara and Casale will become public later this month.
New in this 2019 edition are speaker-slots from Duiker Combustion Engineers and Battolyser BV. In recent years, Duiker Combustion Engineers developed the stoichiometrically-controlled oxidation (SCO) concept to handle the ammonia-rich streams of refineries and other industrial processes. Fokko Mulder, professor at TU Delft and a director of Battolyser BV, will present the developments and next steps to be taken with the battolyser technology.
Interactive program
Just like last year a Walking Dinner will conclude the first day of the conference on Thursday June 6th. “We think the walking dinner is the best way to exchange information and build a network during our event. New this year will be our Early Bird Walk on Friday June 7th. We offer you the unique possibility to walk through Rotterdam Zoo and wake up together with all its inhabitants. The zoo will be specially opened during this walk for attendees of the NH3 event,” says Vrijenhoef. The conference organizer also presents a speaker slot on Friday by Blijdorp Zoo but, Virjenhoef notes, “It will be a surprise what the Zoo will present for us this year.”
