300 MW of alkaline units for Project Onuba

Click to learn about the new agreements for thyssenkrupp nucera to supply alkaline electrolyzer units for Project Onuba in Spain.
thyssenkrupp nucera and Moeve have signed an engineering, procurement, fabrication and supply contract for the development of Project Onuba, the first in several project phases in the “Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley”. thyssenkrupp nucera will provide 300 MW in total of alkaline electrolysis capacity (fifteen “standardized 20‑MW units”), with Moeve having already announced project FID this March.
The Iberian Peninsula represents one of Europe’s greatest opportunities for large-scale green hydrogen production. Onuba shows that when the fundamentals are right, major green hydrogen projects can advance and reach FID, even in volatile markets. With our experience and our alkaline water electrolysis technology, designed for industrial‑scale applications, we are well positioned to support Moeve on their path toward gigawatt‑scale hydrogen production.

More than €1 billion will be invested in Onuba, with the option to expand the above electrolysis capacity by an additional 100 MW. The overall Valley scheme entails up to 2 GW of installed electrolysis, targeting products like biofuels, ammonia, methanol, and feedstock for local chemical and fertilizer production.
FEED for 260 MW project in Andhra Pradesh, India
Juno Joule and German-based developer SELECT Energy launched the $1.3 billion project near Mulapeta Port, Andhra Pradesh in 2025. Renewable energy from India’s grid and electrolysis will feed production of up to 1 million tons per year of RFNBO-compliant ammonia, with the project to be developed in three phases. thyssenkrupp nucera will execute the FEED study for the project, with phase once to feature 260 MW of installed electrolysis capacity.
This is the first Indian green hydrogen project in our portfolio. Securing this contract marks an important milestone in our mission to accelerate India’s transition to a green hydrogen economy. The collaboration with Juno Joule reflects thyssenkrupp nucera’s strong strategic drive to advance green hydrogen in India. At the same time, India’s exceptional renewable potential provides the ideal conditions for such a project.
Dr. Werner Ponikwar, CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera, in his organisation’s official press release, 17 Mar 2026
Pending successful progress, thyssenkrupp nucera intends to play a role as engineering, procurement, fabrication and supply contract partner. Juno Joule indicates that FID is anticipated in 2026-27.
