Anglo-Eastern announced that the first cohort has successfully completed its inaugural Pilot Training Course on Ammonia as a Marine Fuel at its Maritime Training Centre (AEMTC) in Karjat, India. 26 participants were put through a two-day programme, including Masters, Chief Engineers, senior officers, and junior engineers. The hands-on training included experience with Anglo-Eastern’s LNG/Ammonia bunkering skid – a state-of-the-art facility designed for practical simulation of bunkering operations.
This advanced asset integrates transfer pipelines, safety interlocks, inerting systems, emergency shutdown functionality, gas detection interfaces, and fully operational controls, enabling seafarers to practice critical procedures in a safe, controlled environment. The facility’s ability to simulate emergency scenarios and operational variances ensures trainees acquire the competence and confidence required for future service aboard ammonia-powered vessels.

This pilot course is a logical and deliberate step as we prepare to take delivery of our first ammonia-fuelled ship. As we navigate our journey toward the successful adoption of a multi-fuel future in the maritime industry, we move forward with both pride and caution. Our goal is to ensure that we continually learn while we teach, cultivating an environment of growth and innovation. The team has dedicated significant time and resources to upskill, keeping a strong focus on the invaluable feedback from seafarers – those who will be at the forefront of these operations. We as an industry must continue to seek these essential insights, as we refine our approach and enhance the training programs.

World’s leading independent ship manager prepares for “takeover” of first vessels
Already the ship manager for the ammonia-fueled vessel Fortescue Green Pioneer, Anglo-Eastern will soon take on that responsibility for a series of vessels coming out of Chinese shipyards. “Takeover” of a newbuild vessel bridges the gap between construction and vessel operations, and – particularly for ammonia-fueled vessels – is a critical step to ensure the vessel is seaworthy, compliant, and ready for commercial deployment. Anglo-Eastern will manage at least the first two in a series of ammonia-fueled Newcastlemax vessels being built for CMB.TECH at Qingdao Beihai Shipyard, featuring WinGD engines. CMB.TECH made a recent move to secure ammonia fuel supplies in northeast China, including one of the world’s first bunker fuel offtake agreements. CMB.TECH already has a series of charter agreements in place for the operations of these vessels: with Fortescue, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and Yara (the containership Yara Eyde is being built at Qingdao Yangfan Shipyard).
