As part of the new joint venture, the pair will lead construction of two 51,530 m3 ammonia-fueled ammonia carriers, which will also be capable of carrying LPG. Contracts have been announced with Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co. to build the vessels near Shanghai, with deliveries scheduled to take place in June and October 2028. Each of the vessels has already been awarded a NOK 90 million (approx. $9 million) investment grant from the Norwegian government agency Enova. The pair expect commercial bank finance to finance the majority of the remaining vessel costs.
Expanding our fleet with two modern ammonia carriers capable of using clean ammonia as a fuel, operating in a long-term time charter, is a strategic enabler in meeting the growing demand for a sustainable fuel source in a net-zero economy. These modern vessels will be equipped with newly developed technologies that comply with present and future environmental regulations and will thereby deliver great value to both our customers and our shareholders.
Mads Peter Zacho, CEO of Navigator, in his organisation’s official press release, 17 July 2025
Amon Maritime was founded with a vision to lead the green shift in shipping by pioneering the use of ammonia fuel. We are proud to realize this vision alongside our forward-looking and competent partners in Navigator Gas, serving ammonia-powered transportation services to market leaders. We are very satisfied to expand and strengthen our relationship with Navigator Gas further by constructing and operating these vessels.

Network of marine ammonia subsidiaries, partners and joint ventures
Amon Maritime has now established a series of subsidiaries, joint ventures, and partnerships that stretch across the ammonia fuel value chain – and the full range of vessels that will run on ammonia fuel. Beginning in 2020, Amon has launched Viridis Bulk Carriers (short-sea, ammonia-fueled bulk carriers on Norway’s coast), Azane Fuel Solutions (bunker barge developers, 15 vessels already pre-ordered by Yara), Amon Offshore (launched Nov 2022), Ula Ship Management, Amon Gas (launched June 2024, involved in this new joint venture), Amon Bulk (launched this year), plus a number of others. Setting itself up as a pure play ammonia powered shipping and technology company (with no fleet to currently consider), Amon Maritime is well-positioned to lead Norway’s ammonia-fueled shipping transition.
